GRADING GUIDELINES FOR SUSTAINABLY SOURCED NEW TIMBER
SUSTAINABLY SOURCED SELECT GRADE
This is available dressed, brushed and sawn, Smokey grey or sawtooth finish.
SOME TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF SELECT GRADE INCLUDE:
- Unlimited tight knots/ tight gum veins less than 40mm or 1/3 of width of surface
- Natural colour and sapwood variation
- Unlimited black specs / burls
- Minor want and wane
SUSTAINABLY SOURCED MINIMUM FEATURE & BETTER GRADE
This is available dressed, brushed and sawn, Smokey grey or sawtooth finish.
SOME TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF MINIMUM FEATURE & BETTER INCLUDE:
- Unlimited tight knots/ tight gum veins less than 50mm or 3/8 of width of surface
- Unlimited black specs, burls, hobnails
- Want and wane not exceeding 1/3 of the surface on which it occurs
- Unlimited sapwood and natural discolouration

- What is the end application?
- What is the finish required?
- What is the structural grading required?
- What colour and or durability are required?
- Is the timber unseasoned, seasoned or kiln dried?
- Is the timber to be used internally or externally?
- Will the timber receive any coating either prior to or after installation?
- Will your supplier provide a certificate of timber origin and grading compliance?
